Harvey Moon made a drawing machine that via a sensor during the exhibition, from 23 april to 30 October, measures the light outside at the Verbeke Foundation and collects and converts it into a unique work of art. The light makes the drawing.
Moon makes machines of motors and servos, which then create drawings using algorythms that instruct the movements for writing. For Moon, art is not necessarily what the machines produce, the implementation of the machine while it is drawing, it is the overall process. A part of the process is how the machine often fails in the dedicated task.
Moon is especially interested in what machines are telling about ourselves and our interaction with the world. A machine that makes a drawing step by step, shows the progress of a creative process, which is not at all transparant, where the system of thought and action is initiated by him, but is outside his body lives a life of its own.
