The heart of the exhibition consists of a series of Ge Ba textiles from the Verbeke Foundation collection. The term Ge Ba literally means \u201clayer\u201d or \u201clayering\u201d in Chinese. These are textile compositions made from scraps, old clothing or other fragments, which were originally made in south-western China for practical purposes in the 1950s-1970s. These anonymous creations, mostly made by women, show a remarkable sense of composition and today form a bridge between folk art and art.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1767817503209{margin-bottom: -100px !important;}”][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”8200,8201,8202″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Conny Groenewegen
\n<\/strong>The Poetry of Indifference<\/em><\/p>\n

Conny Groenewegen works at the intersection of fashion, art and technology. With her project FAMA (Fashion Machine), Groenewegen draws attention to the way clothing is produced, consumed and discarded. Instead of designing new clothing, she dissects existing textile materials and transforms them into new forms and installations.
\nIn the installation at the Verbeke Foundation, Groenewegen makes visible the enormous mass that represents the overproduction of textiles. Ferre Grignard became known as a musician in 1966 with his debut album Ring Ring, I’ve Got to Sing, followed by songs such as Drunken Sailor, Crucified Jesus and She’s Gone. His music and personality made him an icon of the rebellious 1960s.
\nHowever, in addition to the guitar, there was also the paintbrush. Ferre was already creating visual art before his musical breakthrough and continued to do so throughout his life. This exhibition at the Verbeke Foundation highlights that other, lesser-known but equally inspiring side of Ferre: the artist. \n<\/strong>THE UNDESIGNATED JOURNEY<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Koen Deprez comes from the world of architecture and has developed into a conceptual artist, architectural designer, essayist, curator and researcher. Architecture and art form a symbiosis. For Deprez, the world is fundamentally unknowable, and does not need to be knowable. Instead of architecture, he makes collages of objects. He creates structures that respond to an inner logic in order to make events possible. The work leaves room for imagination. His life and work unfold like an indeterminate journey.

In the collage museum, we display textile works from our own collection and five artists who create collages and assemblages. In the work of Andrea Janssens and Olaf van der Beek, collages, assemblages and painting directly influence each other. Both techniques inspire and support each other.
\nWalter Goossens started out as a painter, and painting still plays a very important role in his work, but collage and assemblage are equally important. He collects, tears, cuts, pastes and assembles incessantly, paying close attention to how we deal with life and also with death.
\nAndr\u00e9 Vereecken and Ludo Giels have been friends for a long time and have exhibited together before. Here they are brought together again.
