Brandon Ballengée’s artistieke onderzoek ‘Malamp Reliquaries’ toont verval en genetische afwijkingen bij amfibieën. Zijn werk is het resultaat van samenwerking met andere onderzoekers en honderden mensen uit de lokale gemeenschap waar zijn onderzoek plaatsvond. De afwijkingen van de amfibieën zijn chemisch bewerkt zodat ze fel opkleuren. Brandon Ballengée’s artistic research ‘Malamp Reliquaries’ shows the decline and genetic abnormalities at amphibians. His work is the result of cooperation with other researchers and hundreds of people from the local community where his research took place. The deviations from the amphibians are chemically modified so they color very bright. As a result, the preparation is an abstract work that, printed on the size of a human infant, rather generates empathy than fear to the observer. By picking up science from the laboratory and show it in an artistic way, Brandon’s work opens the way to the debate on broader environmental issues.
